File Reference

In this context, a reference is a link in your database to a file, or in other words 'information (stored in the database) on how to locate a particular file'

For each file Smart Pix only stores a reference in its database, i.e. the database contains information on where the file is located on your hard drive, but not a copy of the file itself (unless you are using database file storage).

When we say that a file is referenced by the database, we mean that somewhere in our database there is information on that file and its location.
